Verses: Exodus 3: 10-12 (Miss Kim Paraphrase)
“I am sending you so that you may lead My people…
I will certainly be with you! …
This will be the sign to you that I have sent you – you will worship me right here on this mountain.”
Here’s the scene: Moses has killed man, left Egypt, found a wife and become a shepherd. He lives in the desert and takes care of animals all day. Then a burning bush blocks his path and God tells him – Go back to Egypt.
Living in the desert, Moses must have resigned himself to the fact that the life he had left behind in Egypt was gone forever. He would never know his birth family nor his people because he had acted in anger. I can imagine he had grown content where he was – he had a family and was prospering in his life.
Then a burning bush blocks his path.
We all have those times of wondering why we are here. We are simply going through our life, doing the next logical thing and suddenly, an obstacle is placed in front of us. Maybe it’s an event that rocks our world or a person who challenges our faith.
Suddenly we aren’t so sure of what’s going on – but God knows.
God was very clear to Moses:
1. You have a purpose –
“You are being sent to lead My people.”
2. You are not alone –
“Certainly I will be with you.”
3. I will let you know you have done the right thing.
I’m struck by the fact that God did not give him a sign BEFORE he obeyed. Okay, granted, a burning bush in the path is a pretty big indication this is God. Yet, I would have probably asked for one more affirmation before heading into a country where I am wanted for murder!
“Obey first, I will give you a sign afterwards.”
And not just a sign! God says, “I will bring you back to this very location and here, everyone with you, will worship me.”
The message for you today is the same:
God has called you.
He will certainly be with you.
We will all worship God together one day.
