Learning

“If you become a teacher, by your students you’ll be taught,”

Oscar Hammerstein II

No truer words were ever sung on any stage.   My career in teaching spans subjects from Home Economics to Special Education.  I’ve taught adults and children.   I learned quickly I am not a “littles” teacher – please don’t ask me to teach a room of 4/5 year olds!   I’ve traveled from California to Kentucky to learn best practices to teach literacy skills to moms and their babies and every moment of teaching has been thrillling.

The most rewarding has been teaching my own two children at home.  We struggled through math, laughed through social studies and explored science.   There were a few tears too!  Mostly mine.

Recently,  I’m learning life lessons from another realm.  I’ve taken on one-on-one mentoring.  I didn’t really set out to do this, but I love it!

Funny, we fell backwards into supporting college kids through Master Plan Ministires (http://www.masterplanministries.net) and I have kinda fallen backwards into this season of discipleship.

These young ladies are amazing!  They are so full of energy and excitement and joy.  The young ladies of the Trinity International University Soccer Program in Deerfield, Illinois amaze me every day!  (TIUTrojans.com, TIU.edu).  Hilariously, there is not an athletic bone in my body so I learn a lot about sports, too!

But what I love the most?  Their desire to know God.  To know everything they can about Him.  To talk to Him.  To hear His voice.  To see His hand.   To understand His creation and His great love.

And each time I meet with them and talk about our Creator, their joy and enthusiasm becomes contagious!

They teach me to never forget my first love – Jesus.

Thanks Ladies!   And maybe I’m learning a little more about soccer, too!
