Fear

How about another “never would I have imagined” moment?

I live in the Northern Suburbs of Chicago. Like way north. Like 3 miles from Wisconsin!

To the rest of the nation – and my family – I live in Chicago. To Chicagoans, I live in Lake County. No mans land.

We go into the City often. Doctors. Museums. Food. It’s a grand adventure.

Never would I have imagined that I would be comfortable driving into Chicago. That doesn’t mean I don’t get lost or flustered but I know I can do it.

Never would I have imagined myself driving into the murder capital if the United States with my kids, walking the streets, greeting people – without fear.

Fear paralyzes us. Keeps us from enjoying great things and seeing beauty around us.

It also keeps us from doing God’s Work.  We are afraid of failing – which is really just a lesson learned. We are afraid of rejection – which is really just meeting new people on new terms.  We are afraid of loneliness – which is an amazing opportunity to be with God.

We are afraid of death. Which is really just going Home!

What would you do today if fear were not an issue?  If you were so confident that God would equip you wherever you went – where would you go?

Father, take our greatest fear and make it our greatest victory!
